Hollywood World: How did you come into acting?
Mikayla Desroches: I have always loved acting and performing in front of people. When I was little all I ever wanted was to play pretend. I would role play my whole life. Being an actor let’s me play pretend and live other people’s lives and experiences while still getting to be me. I started at local theater groups at the age of 4 and have been in over 23 musical theater shows and numerous television, commercial, voice over and movie projects and love all of them for different reasons
Hollywood World: Which film was the turning point in your career?
Mikayla Desroches: Every project I work on gives me more experience and growth in acting. I am still waiting for my big break and the role of a lifetime.
Hollywood World: Who has supported you?
Mikayla Desroches: My mother and father both have to support me because I am only 10 years old. I am lucky because my mother owns her own business and has flexibility to take me on countless auditions, rehearsals, lessons and shoots. Luckily my teachers and principal have been very understanding and supportive too. I also have been lucky enough to have great management and representation.
Hollywood World: What is “Innocence” film about?
Mikayla Desroches: Innocence is a film about sexual abuse and women’s struggle to be better.
Hollywood World: Who else is involved in this film?
Mikayla Desroches: Miranda Jean wrote the film. The three actors were Miranda, Chris Krause and myself. Mike Cicchetti and Miranda Jean directed and produced it. They were all amazing people and I am honored to have worked with them.
Hollywood World: What makes a good scene partner?
Mikayla Desroches: A good scene partner gives you room to explore your character and when needed something to lean on. Miranda was an amazing scene partner. She made me feel comfortable and safe and always encouraged me to do my own thing and explore my character.
Hollywood World: What are the favorite projects you have been a part of?
Mikayla Desroches: Innocence was definitely one of my favorites. I did a very fun commercial for Long Island tourism. It was fun because I got to do all the fun tourist stuff. I enjoyed my experience with the NYNW theater festival performing in Sleepy Hollow the Musical. My all-time favorite role was playing Ti Moune in Once on This Island Jr.
Hollywood World: What have you learned from the director(s)?
Mikayla Desroches: To always be true to yourself and be an honest open actor. Some other directors have taught me that I shouldn’t always take criticism to heart. But I have learned something from all of them.
Hollywood World: What has been your biggest achievement?
Mikayla Desroches: Hopefully I don’t think I’ve had my biggest achievement yet. But I have had some wonderful experiences and winning the Best Young Actress award and being nominated for Best Duo with Miranda from the Top Shorts Online Festival was an amazing honor.
Hollywood World: What do you think is most important in this field?
Mikayla Desroches: I think the most important thing in this field is to never doubt yourself and not let all the NO’s get you down because the one “yes” makes up for all the disappointment. It’s very important to always have fun and learn from everything you do, and so far that has been true for me and every project I’ve worked on.
Hollywood World: What was your most memorable role and why?
Mikayla Desroches: Playing in the New York New Music Theatre Festival was very memorable because we reach such a large audience, and we played in such great theater. We got to the finals so that was a lot of fun.
Innocence was very memorable for me because I feel it is important to get the message out there that women are strong and you do not have to suffer alone. It was also a great experience because I got to meet Miranda, and she is an awesome person. I felt connected to her the minute I met her. I hope she makes it big and casts me in another movie with her because I would love to work with her again.
Hollywood World: Any tips on how to become successful actor?
Mikayla Desroches: I’m still working on the successful part LOL, but from what I’ve learned it is to be honest, hard-working, and love what you do. I am all of the above, and I hope I am always able to work in this industry, be creative, and hopefully get to help other people while doing it.
Hollywood World: What do you want to be remembered for life? What valuable lessons have you learned that helps you become the person you are today?
Mikayla Desroches: If I could be remembered for anything it would be for being a good person and helping people. I hope to become a famous actress, singer, and writer, and use my fame and money to help animals, children adults and the earth. Some of the valuable lessons I have learned is to be your own person, always stand up for yourself and others, and to not be afraid to be brave. Do what’s right even if it’s not what everyone else is doing.
Hollywood World: What’s next?
Mikayla Desroches: My future is wide open. I know I’ll end up where I’m supposed to be, and I will keep working towards my acting and singing career. I just know wherever I end up, the most important thing is that I will be myself, and I will be kind and happy.
