Hollywood Insider Interview with the talented Laura Linda Bradley
Hollywood World: What do you love about the role that you are currently playing in “Laura”?
Laura Linda Bradley: Laura’s cornerstone is her fun, outgoing personality. She’s a 100% girl, with all the fun and the crazy! She doesn’t have a filter, she lives life wide open; that’s so much fun to play.
Hollywood World: What is the storyline about?
Laura Linda Bradley: The show is female driven sketch comedy with three freestanding sketches in each episode. The show explores everything from the Post Break Up Social Media War, Beauty Bloggers, and Late Night Infomercial Shopping. It’s relatable and painfully honest comedy. Exploring how you might respond to life’s tricky moments, if the polite rulebook was thrown out!
Hollywood World: What makes a good scene partner?
Laura Linda Bradley: People often listen with the intent to respond rather than understand. A great scene partner actively listens; and is always pushing you, affecting you in the scene. Polite actors are pointless! You have to affect change in your partner.
Hollywood World: What are your favorite projects you have been apart of?
Laura Linda Bradley: It’s impossible to pick one or two!! Every film, script, and musical I’ve had the opportunity of working on has had something special and memorable! That being said, The Laura Show will forever hold a very special place in my heart!
Hollywood World: How much experience do you have as an actor?
Laura Linda Bradley: I’m convinced I grew up in a musical! I was constantly preforming growing up, my imagination could transform anything into a stage! My Mom got me into formal training when I was five. I’m so grateful, my arts education has not only shaped my career, but who I am as a person.
Hollywood World: Describe your best quality as an actor?
Laura Linda Bradley: Passionate! I feel everything so incredibly deeply, I want to feel a sense of compassion for my characters. I want to understand what happened to them as a child that made them the way they are as an adult. Every role we have the opportunity to play, regardless of size or billing, deserves our respect, our compassion and love!
Hollywood World: What do you enjoy the most about your job?
Laura Linda Bradley: I love how creative it is! We’re storytellers, and somehow I’m fortunate enough to get to work and collaborate with creative people everyday. I get to take words on a page and breath life into them. There’s nothing else like that!
Hollywood World: What have you learned from the directors that you have worked with throughout your career?
Laura Linda Bradley: I’ve learned to slow down and envision the final project; often as actors we get so focused on our own work we don’t look up to see the other pieces of the puzzle coming together.
Hollywood World: From where have you learned acting? What training do you have?
Laura Linda Bradley: I studied at NCSA while I was on the East Coast. Since moving to LA I’ve worked with a number of amazing studios and coaches. I’ve never been married to one school of learning; I prefer a mix of styles and training. I think that makes for the most diverse and complex actor.
Hollywood World: What has been your biggest achievement in the field of acting?
Laura Linda Bradley: In 2015 I won an Emmy for my performance in Surviving an Active Shooter. That was a surreal day!!! When The Laura Show got picked up by Amazon for Seasons 2 and 3, I was dancing on air! But honestly I haven’t reached my biggest achievements yet; they’re still to come!
Hollywood World: What other types of movies would you be interested in filming?
Laura Linda Bradley: I’m so excited to see what the future holds! I love drama, but I also love comedy! Comedy same as dance has a rhythm to it, which has always made sense to me. I would be thrilled to do action/adventure at some point in my career. I’m so thankful to be an actor, getting to explore different genres and characters is the fun part!
Hollywood World: How do you see your role as an actor?
Laura Linda Bradley: My job is to bring a writer’s words, or someone’s story to life in the most honest and truthful way possible.
Hollywood World: What was your most memorable role? Why?
Laura Linda Bradley: To date it would be my character in The Laura Show, when Amazon picked up the show; that made a huge shift in my career. She’s so much fun to play, it doesn’t feel like work!! We live with these polite guards on, she doesn’t! It’s amazing, the crazy fleeting ideas that you would normally shut down; she runs with them! Whole heartily believing it’s a great idea! “Leave him a twelfth unreturned voice mail; sing a Musical number to celebrate your friend’s promotion, that’s normal…”
Hollywood World: What is your secret?
Laura Linda Bradley: No secret! Hard work and an amazing supportive family! And it helps that I love what I do!
Hollywood World: What other hobbies do you have?
Laura Linda Bradley: I love music, dance, and writing. Spending time in the studio or writing has always been an escape for me and a way to clear my mind. You have to have something that resets and rechargers you creatively to stay productive.
Hollywood World: Who are your role model?
Laura Linda Bradley: There are so many women I admire and respect in this business; Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Brie Larson, Alicia Vikader, Jessica Shastain. The variety of characters they’ve played, the stories they’ve told… it’s amazing!!
Hollywood World: What makes you feel like a star?
Laura Linda Bradley: I’m a girly girl so dressing up for an event, hair and makeup done, wearing my favorite heels, a beautiful dress; that certainly makes you feel like a princess.
Hollywood World: Any tips about how to be a successful actor?
Laura Linda Bradley: Never stop learning, find a class that inspires and pushes you constantly. Find a mentor that knows you and will call you on your crap. Someone who has already gone down this road and can shed some light on what’s to come.
Hollywood World: What do you want to be remembered for in life? What valuable lessons have you learned that helped you become the person you are today?
Laura Linda Bradley: I want to be remembered for making a positive difference. Charity and giving back was something my Mom always showed through example as being important. As an adult, I gave careful thought about what causes mattered the most to me and where I felt I could help. I’m so thankful to work with charities like WildAid, Global Green and Habitat! I also want to be remembered for making people laugh!
Hollywood World: What’s next?
Laura Linda Bradley: I just finished my first feature script We Are Virginia Tech; it’s in pre-production currently. It’s based on the Virginia Tech shooting of ’07; it focuses on the victims and how that morning’s events forever changed so many lives. It’s a project I’ve wanted to write for some time, I’m really excited to bring these characters to life and share their story.
